Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long does it take to complete each course?
A: Courses typically take a month to complete. While the video lesson and note catcher reflections may only take an hour, the core value of these courses lies in implementing what you learn into your teaching practice. Most teachers spend about an hour each week reflecting on guiding questions in their Action Research Project template and analyzing the impact that newly learned practices are having on their students.
Q: What does the course work look like?
A: There are three components to the course work:
1 - Watching a ~20 minute video lesson and reflecting in a note catcher that is provided to you.
2 - Answering questions and responding to peers on the Health and PE Collective.
3 - Writing an Action Research Project paper to reflect on your learning and analyze how the course has impacted your teaching practice and student outcomes. Action Research Projects are typically 5-10 pages, with a template provided to streamline the writing process.
Q: Will my district accept these license renewal hours?
While we haven't had a district refuse to accept a DPE Certificate for license renewal hours yet, we recommend confirming with your district before enrolling. Share the course syllabus with the appropriate department and get approval to ensure the hours will count toward your license renewal.
Q: Will my district accept these graduate-level credits?
Upon completion of each course, you will receive an official transcript from Colorado State University, which is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). While CSU's accreditation is universally recognized, we recommend sharing the course syllabus with the appropriate department in your district and obtaining pre-approval before enrolling in your first course.
Q: Can I get tuition reimbursement?
Many schools and districts offer tuition reimbursement. DPE is happy to provide whatever documentation you need to support your reimbursement request. Please check with the appropriate department in your district to learn about their requirements, then let us know what you need.
